Ahead of Cold Snap, McKee Administration Shares Information on Warming Centers and Safety Tips Published on Friday, January 19, 2024 PROVIDENCE, RI – With extremely cold temperatures forecasted for later today through the weekend, Governor Dan McKee and his administration are reminding Rhode Islanders of available resources and safety tips. Bitter cold temperatures are expected with sub-zero wind chills Friday and Saturday night. Light snow is also expected Friday afternoon with the potential to impact the evening commute before tapering off on Saturday morning. Throughout this past week, the Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency (RIEMA), and the Department of Housing have been preparing for this cold snap. RIEMA has been working with cities and towns across Rhode Island to ensure warming centers are prepared for an increase in demand.
