Governor McKee, Rhode Island AI Task Force Invite Public Input Through Statewide Survey

Published on Friday, April 25, 2025

Responses will help inform task force recommendations on responsible, effective AI use in Rhode Island

PROVIDENCE, RI—Governor Dan McKee and the Rhode Island Artificial Intelligence (AI) Task Force are inviting Rhode Islanders to participate in a quick online survey on their awareness of and experiences with AI. Public feedback will inform the Task Force’s recommendations, guiding how Rhode Island responsibly and effectively adopts AI to spark innovation and create efficiencies in government and the private sector.

Survey responses will be collected through May 9, 2025.

“We’re positioning Rhode Island as a national leader in AI, cybersecurity, and other emerging technologies,” said Governor McKee. “Our goal is to harness the benefits of AI for our local economy while mitigating potential risks through thoughtful policy and planning. It’s important to hear from Rhode Islanders as we continue to shape the future of AI in RI.”

In February 2024, Governor McKee signed Executive Order No. 24-06 establishing the state’s first AI Task Force to explore how AI can create efficiencies within state government operations, enhance services provided to the public, and prepare the state to support the advancement of this technology in Rhode Island.

The Task Force is chaired by former Congressman Jim Langevin, a nationally recognized leader in cybersecurity, with Chris Parisi, founder and CEO of Providence-based Trailblaze Marketing, serving as Vice Chair. Its members include leaders from government, the tech industry, education, health care, and the local business community.

“The AI Task Force is hard at work to identify the most effective ways Rhode Island can harness the power of this emerging technology while minimizing the risks it brings,” said Congressman Jim Langevin, chair of the task force. “As we create our roadmap, we’re asking the public to offer their insights on if and how they’d like to see artificial intelligence implemented across the state, as well as to share any concerns about the future of this technology. The survey is quick and easy, and the Task Force looks forward to reviewing these results.”

"Artificial intelligence is poised to reshape the very pillars of our society — from the economy to education. We're fortunate that Governor McKee established this AI Task Force to ensure Rhode Island takes a proactive, thoughtful path forward. But our work is only as strong as the voices behind it. That's why it's critical we hear directly from Rhode Islanders about their hopes, concerns, and ideas. I encourage everyone to take the survey and share their perspective as we shape our final recommendations,” said Chris Parisi, vice chair of the task force.

In addition to establishing the State’s first AI task force, Governor McKee also created the Institute of Cybersecurity and Emerging Technologies at Rhode Island College, which just was recently designated as a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense by the National Security Agency.
